Smoking lounge in Amsterdam (schiphol) and how to get in
Hi there travel folks. I've got a question but let me explain my situation a bit. I travel by air about 4 times a year and I'm a smoker...yeh yeh I know it's bad for you . Flying 4 times a year is going to take me forever to save up miles and thus getting myself into those smoking/drinking/fun lounges worldwide. So I've decided to buy a card for them, so far I'm considering the president's club card from continental and I've looked at the priority pass but those lounges don't allow smoking at my home airport of Amsterdam (schiphol) at least.
Can you guys recommend a card which will get me into a smoking lounge at Amsterdam airport? I don't want to use day-passes.
Thanks,
Tenosce

Last time I was in the Menzies lounge @Schiphol (last year), which is a PP lounge, you can smoke in there. Just can't take any food or drinks into the smoking room.

Ok should have googled first, so this is accessable with a priority pass but the websites all indicate this is a non-smoking lounge(s)(west&south terminal). Maybe the separate smoking room is ommited. Can anyone confirm this?

The Menzies lounge in the Schengen area ('west') has a smoking room - but I haven't been there for a few months. Other lounges with a smoking area include both KLM Crown Lounges. Don't know about the non-Schengen Menzies and the Servisair lounges.
There used to be a smokers corner upstairs in the corridor between E and F piers, adjacent to the 'old' KLM lounge, but I don't know whether it is still there.
The Murphy's Irish Pub at the D pier also has a smoking section now.
If all you're after is a place to smoke 4x/year, PriorityPass is a rather expensive option. If you travel on KL/AF you are better off entering the KL Crown Lounges as someone else's guest (although you'd need to find that someone else first).

I believe there are also a few public smoking cubicles somewhere - so no need to pay for lounge access.

Lol good point. No I'm not going to go around Schiphol asking people if they can please bring me into a lounge. I didn't know Murphy's Irish Pub had a smoking section, I've had some good times in there back in the day (pre tobacco maffia era).
I'm not that concerned on spending those annual 250 dollars for PP, I'm just weighing my options here. What I like about President's club is that lifetime card deal for 5k dollar, if that would include a beer and a smoke at Amsterdam/Dubai/Bangkok then I would be happy to donate and be done with it. Speaking of which, president's club can get me into the Singapore SilverKris and KrisFlyer Lounges at Amsterdam but I don't think they have a smoking section, anyone been in there?
I'll be sure to check out Murphy's next time I'm there, thx.
Aviatrix: Last time I was there, I took a solumn oath never....ever to enter those filthy little smoke boxes again. Never. Ever. LOL.

Also, on the Schengen airside, there's a smoking area round the back of the big bar/restaurant (can't remember its name) that's on your right just after you come through the immigration/security from the non-Schengen airside. Last time I looked in, though, it was very crowded and more than a little messy.

You mean outside in the alley-way behind McD's back entrance, next to the big wheelie bins

Shucks - I've been rumbled!
Actually, my best "fast-food" Schiphol story is about the Juggle Sandwich Bar, in the Plaza...
I was a bit (ahem) 'dazed': I'd just finished by burger and OJ, when I saw the self-disposal bin by the exit. So, I cheerfully took my tray up, pulled the big handle to open the bin and emptied the tray into the exposed, large receptacle. Then, to my horror () and lasting embarrassment (
), I heard an extremely loud crack, as the china plate from which I'd eaten my (very nice) burger broke into several hundred pieces - obviously attracting accusative glares from all the other customers and staff in the shop.

smoking areas in Schipol
The reintroduction of smoking areas is new, I noticed them on my last transit (February 10). Apart from the one mentioned above, there is also a smoking area notice for the small bar just at the entrance to B pier (after the longish walk from the main concourse.

LoL Henry, A'dam will do that to you . I flew back back from A'dam on Feb.17 and was made aware of that smoking room up the stairs by the little bar, I think close to the network bar? Next time I'll be lounge surfing.

Yes. I remember seeing a sign at Schiphol saying "Smoking Area - Coming Soon" on my way back from Xmas/NY holidays in early Jan. So I guess they reappeared late Jan/early Feb.
Even though, these days, I can get into the Crown Lounges, I still approve of the 'public' Smoking Areas - I think this 'Brave New World' mentality regarding smokers and smoking has gone far to far, and is now just plain spiteful.
