San Fernando Valley Field Office timeline I485 processing | Lawfully (2024)

S

S MApr 12, 2022

9.5 to 13.5 months processing time. as for wether the case gets sent back to NBC, I honestly don’t know but I am assuming if you had the interview then the officer should makea decision and not send it to NBC

A

Arun sApr 12, 2022

Thanks. I dont have any update on my application yet from San Fernando Valley office.

A

Arun sApr 13, 2022

Anyone else who got their EB 485 from SFV field office?

M

Max NikApr 15, 2022

@arun my emplyement based case was transferred from NBC to this filed office which is a distant field office becasue I live in another state. it was transferred 10 days ago.

A

Arun sApr 15, 2022

@Max - Thanks for the update. Do you know the average processing time? And did you get notification in your portal after it got transferred to SFV Field office? I still dont see any update on my account.

M

Max NikApr 15, 2022

@Arun, I did not get any status update. I realized this trasnfer when I was chatting with Emma and their live agent told me. They told me that they did that due to delay in processing. Honestly, I am not sure if anyone can answer your question. USCIS peopel just say official processing time 8.5-13.5 months but for employment based I have heard that it takes much faster. Is SFV your local office? When was your case trasnferred there?

A

Arun sApr 15, 2022

@Max Everytime I chat with Tier 1 agent, they keep giving different updates. One agent said its still at NBC, while another said its at SFV FO. I dont know which one is true. Also SFV FO is not my local field office. Its San Jose for me. This process is really broken.

M

Max NikApr 15, 2022

@aurn so it’s not clear what is going on there.

A

Arun sApr 15, 2022

Hope that its at SFV FO and keeping fingers crossed. Nothing much we can do at this point. Good Luck 👍

A

Arun sApr 19, 2022

@max - Any update so far

M

Max NikApr 19, 2022

@arun - nothing yet, you?

A

Arun sApr 19, 2022

Nope

E

E@k SApr 20, 2022

@Arun s ours is also EB 1 and we just got to know from Emma chat that it transferred to SFV fo. We don’t stay there not. Did you get any update on your case?

A

Arun sApr 20, 2022

@E@k S - No updates on my case. My case is not yet assigned to an officer yet. Hopefully soon there is progress.

E

E@k SApr 20, 2022

@Arun thank you! Can you share your timeline ? Also how you know it’s not assigned to any officer?

A

Arun sApr 20, 2022

@E@k S - Applied June 2021 to Nebraska. Transferred to NBC Jan 2022. Transferred to FO March 28. Chatted with Emma and mentioned case not yet assigned to an officer.

E

E@k SApr 20, 2022

@Arun thank you! let’s hope to hear some news soon!

A

Arun sApr 20, 2022

Hope so

M

Max NikApr 20, 2022

@E@k S, do you know when your case was transferred there?

E

E@k SApr 21, 2022

@Max I m not sure as we did not get any notice. We had reverted to medical rfe and checked on status today and got to know this.

M

Max NikApr 21, 2022

@E@k S, may I ask when did you file?

E

E@k SApr 21, 2022

@Mak we filed on Dec 2021 , what is your timeline please?

M

Max NikApr 21, 2022

@E@k S, Oct 2021

E

E@k SApr 21, 2022

@Max thank you! But it’s really surprising it went to SFV eventhough we are located in a different state.

M

Max NikApr 21, 2022

@E@K S, yes but some of my friends experienced the same and their cases were approved without interview. besdies, I chatted again with Emma today and they said my case was not trasnferred anywehre even though in the past they told me twice in different days that my case was in SFV. So I do not know what’s going on there.

E

E@k SApr 21, 2022

@Max oh! This is really strange. infact when I chatted with Emma 15 days back they told it’s in NBC and yesterday they said it’s transferred to SFV .Now even I m wondering if it’s transferred or not!

M

Max NikApr 21, 2022

@E@k S, there are only two possibilities, either my case was trasnferred back to NBC or Emma info is not so accurate.

E

E@k SApr 21, 2022

@Max yes could be! I will also check after some days and see what response I get!

A

Arun sApr 21, 2022

@Max - Its an electronic transfer between NBC and FO. So even though the case is at FO, it will still show as NBC as FO need to review the application and get back to NBC eventually. So unless an officer is assigned to the case at FO to review the application, nothing happens. FO decides whether interview can be waived or needed. If waived, then it goes back to NBC where they ask for visa numbers to be allocated for that application. If interview is needed, then its sent to local FO for scheduling an interview. Hope this helps.

M

Max NikApr 21, 2022

@Arun, Emma told me that my case was in FO two weeks ago, it seems their system showed that but today when I chatted with Emma they said their system shows the case is not in FO but in NBC.

M

Max NikApr 21, 2022

They also said they don’t know if officer was assigned to the case becasue their system does not show it.

A

Arun sApr 21, 2022

@Max - Same with me too. They keep alternating between FO and NBC. At this point, we just have to wait. We are so near yet far.

M

Max NikApr 21, 2022

@Arun, I hope so. do you mean the Emma representatives do not know about the current locations or officer change the locations?

A

Arun sApr 21, 2022

@Max - Tier 1 agents do know the locations. If its at FO, then an officer will have to be assigned to work on the case. So the physical location of the application is still at NBC since NBC transfers file electronically to FO.

M

Max NikApr 21, 2022

@Arun, so how did they know (previously) my was at FO? I chatted with Emma two weeks ago two times on two different days and they sinilarly said it was at FO but today they say my case is at NBC. that’s why I’m confused.

E

E@k SApr 21, 2022

@Arun it’s a good information on electronic transfer . i wasn’t aware of this process.

M

Max NikApr 21, 2022

@Arun and E@k S, I found this information from another group:Looks like the mystery is solved of why some USCIS agents tells us the case is at a particular FO and the other officer says its still at NBC. I spoke with an agent today and she explained how this works- When the case gets transferred to NBC then NBC has the jurisdiction, by that it means your local FO has the final jurisdiction. For load balancing NBC can any FO in the country to review your case, it doesn't mean that the interview is waived, at least not at this point. In USCIS system the case will still be shown physically at NBC and just the A file is forwarded to the FO electronically. Once this FO finishes review they decide if the interview is waived or is needed and they send their recommendation to NBC. If interview is waived then NBC issues visa number and if interview is needed then NBC will ask your local FO to schedule the interview. During all this process some agents will go to the extent of checking if the case is being pre processed at FO and some wont because the final jurisdiction is still with NBC and that's why these agents keep flipping back n forth.

E

E@k SApr 22, 2022

@Max thank you so much! Any idea in how many days after this transfer we should get to hear back on final output?

M

Max NikApr 22, 2022

@E@k S, I believe it differs from case to case. No idea!

A

Arun sApr 23, 2022

@max - I chatted with agent couple times this week and they said case is still with NBC. Last week agent mentioned its in SFV FO. Now im unsure which one is true.

M

Max NikApr 23, 2022

@Arun, it happened to me as well. don’t worry. Today, I talked to a friend, hi case was sent to two different FOs so far and now it is in NBC. I believe that NBC for load balancing sends cases to low volume FOs and these FOs do something and send the case back to NBC. So, apparently it happens to many cases these days. As long as the cases are moving and being processed it is good news.

A

Arun sApr 23, 2022

@max - I dont see these cases processed. Its just moving between NBC and FO.

M

Max NikApr 23, 2022

@Arun, We have limited knowledge about how the cases are processed. I don’t know if the case is processed in one setting or different parts of the case (background, medical, documents verification etc) are processed in different points of time. However, based on hearings and my own observation it seems it is the latter for many cases.

A

Arun sApr 23, 2022

@Max - I thought all documents are initially verified by original service center and then transferred to NBC. Why cant they just process the application in one center instead of switching back and forth?

E

E@k SApr 27, 2022

@Arun @Max I checked with Emma on my case today and the agent said case was not transferred. She said until you explicitly receive any mail or notice regarding case transfer , it means it’s not transferred.

A

Arun sApr 27, 2022

Emma says different answers each time you ask. At this time, just got to wait for final decision.

M

Max NikApr 27, 2022

E@k S, I agree with Arun, it is not clear what they are doing. I think your case might have been sent electronically to a field office for checking something and it was sent back to NBC. We shouldn’t bother ourseleves by figuring out what they are doing. It’s stressing. Let it go…

E

E@k SApr 27, 2022

Agree it’s very stressful. I asked and they said it’s all in normal processing time and once decision is made you will be updated.

M

Max NikApr 27, 2022

@E@K S, when did you file?

E

E@k SApr 27, 2022
